Dr Kate Reid
Lecturer and Health Psychologist
I am a lecturer and health psychologist teaching and researching at the intersections between education, medicine and psychology. I am a pluralist researcher but my starting point involves using a variety of qualitative techniques to uncover and document the complex narratives associated with lived experiences. These lived experiences range from adjusting to chronic illness, resilience in later life, lifelong learning and wellbeing, and studying abroad.
Research and Teaching Interests
Human diversity and complexity, particularly when reacting and adjusting to shifts in health and life-course provide the backdrop to my research interests. I believe that many of the stubborn and complex research questions that we need seek to answer in the medical humanities can be most truthfully and humanely addressed through the use of research methods that place the individual at the heart of the research process. I currently research using a combination of qualitative research methods including visual methods (photographs) to promote in-depth narrative accounts.
