Born and raised in Luxembourg, I completed my undergraduate education at the University of Luxembourg and the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster, Germany. In 2014, I obtained an MSc in History from The University of Edinburgh. Between September 2014 and September 2015, I completed the MLitt programme in War Studies at The University of Glasgow. In my final dissertation, I investigated how efficiently the railways and rolling stock were operated during the Second South African War (1899-1902) in matters that had an impact upon the state of health of British soldiers. Since October 2015, I am working on a PhD project in the field of War Studies under the joint supervision of Dr Phillips O’Brien and Dr Sabine Wieber.
Research and Teaching Interests
My research interests focus on military history and strategic studies but include the subject of military medicine. Above all, I am interested in the question in how far medical considerations can impact military thinking. Although my own research focuses on the era of modern wars – starting with the American Civil War (1861-1865) – I am also interested in medico-military aspects of earlier conflicts.
